The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is turning heads for all the right reasons: electric power, superior comfort, and plenty of cargo room. In this short guide, we unpack the Lightning's features and selling points.

Why You Might Need the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning

Not to be overlooked, automakers are releasing electric-powered trucks to offer consumers greener choices. The F-150 Lightning combines some key features of the Lightning model but then swaps out the gas engine for an electric engine with a battery. If your goal is to have more hauling capacity while cutting your emissions, the Lightning is a solid choice.

Batteries, Range, and Performance

With the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning, you can choose a standard- or extended-range battery. The standard boasts a 230-mile range, while the extended version claims up to 300 miles of range. The standard battery enables up to 426 hp, while the extended battery dials it up to 563 hp.

The F-150 Lightning also has a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup capable of up to 775 lb-ft of torque with an extended-range battery. The Lightning can go from 0 to 60 in around 4.5 seconds with this setup.

Same Truck Capabilities

The F-150 Lightning can tow up to 10,000 pounds when equipped with an extended-range battery. The payload capacity is 2,000 pounds with the standard battery option. And when it comes to knowing how much your Lightning can haul, you're definitely not in the dark. Onboard scales show you estimated driving range with your load based on cargo weight and existing battery power.

Similar Interior as Gas F-150, but Bigger Screen

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning incorporates larger touchscreens just like its gas-powered counterpart. Standard base models offer a 12.0-inch infotainment screen, while that size increases to 15.5 on advanced trims. There's also Ford BlueCruise tech, which allows you to operate hands-free on the highway.

Driving the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning

While driving the F-150 Lightning, you have access to charging stations with more than 63,000 outlets nationwide. And you'll experience a smooth ride between charging. The Lightning has an independent rear suspension. Combined with the truck's lower center of gravity, drivers will experience a smoother ride. This suspension offers four modes: Normal, Sport, Offroad, and Tow/Haul.

Favorite Features

As one of the bestselling trucks in the United States, the F-150 delivers unprecedented power and durability. This model is well-known for its aluminum-intensive construction plus its ability to perform in harsh conditions.

The F-150 Lightning pairs these benefits with electric power. It produces no tailpipe emissions, plus its battery can power appliances and tools. Should you lose power at home, the Lightning's battery can do double duty and provide energy to keep your lights on. Its electric-powered engine also translates to more storage room, with a roomy lockage weather-sealed compartment under the front hood.

Standard Features

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning boasts some impressive standard features: a standard range battery plus a powered hood, adjustable front seat, and vinyl upholstery; on the tech end, the base F-150 Lightning comes with Ford's 2.4-kilowatt Pro Power Onboard package. It includes two 120-volt outlets in the cabin, and additionally, four outlets and two USB ports in the front trunk (frunk); if you need more capacity, you can upgrade to the 9.6-kilowatt Onboard package if you need more capacity.

The Lightning base model also includes a Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 system. Features include Pre-Collision Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Evasive Steering Assist. Inside, you'll see an infotainment system with a 12-inch touchscreen plus enhanced voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smart integration are standard. The infotainment system can support up to 10 Wi-Fi devices and receives updates wirelessly.

Choosing the XLT trim gains you more standard features. These include an 8-way power adjusting driver's seat plus keypad entry, cloth upholstery, and a 360-degree camera system.

Factory Options

Additional factory options are available on the XLT and Lariat versions of the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. You can upgrade to the extended-range battery, which is standard equipment in the Platinum edition. The XLT can also be equipped with heated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, and adaptive cruise control. On the Lariat, you can also get more options, such as a powered tailgate, leather seating, and a 15.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Comfort-focused drivers will love the 10-way heated/ventilated adjustable power seats.
